F.Q. Story.

Bungalows, Revival details, and a visible commitment to preservation.

Explore the district’s homes and setting, then take a practical look at buying or selling here.

Put it in context

Different home styles. A shared neighborhood story.

F.Q. Story brings together Spanish Colonial Revival, English Tudor, Craftsman bungalows, and Transitional Ranch homes. Preservation has also shaped its identity: the Story Preservation Association documents the neighborhood’s advocacy, its historic-resource survey, and the home-tour tradition that helped introduce its architecture to a wider audience.

The city describes the district generally between Seventh and 17th avenues, McDowell Road, and Roosevelt Street.

What to notice in the homes.

In F.Q. Story, notice the rooflines, porches, entries, and changes made to each house over time.

01 / CRAFTSMAN BUNGALOW

Begin at the porch.

Consider the relationship between the porch, roof, and street. Surviving woodwork and original proportions can help tell the home’s story.

02 / ENGLISH TUDOR

Look at the whole composition.

The roof form and entry often do much of the visual work. Assess additions in relation to the original scale and exterior.

03 / SPANISH COLONIAL REVIVAL

Read the material details.

Study how wall finishes, openings, and roof details fit together. A single decorative feature rarely tells the complete architectural story.

04 / TRANSITIONAL RANCH

Follow the floor plan.

Consider circulation, storage, outdoor access, and how renovations have changed the original layout. Similar exteriors can conceal very different interiors.
